Although Mobile might not be one of the largest cities in the South, it’s certainly one that has a ton of history, a ton of culture, and a ton of opportunity for someone looking to call this Alabama city home. As a designated port city located right on the Gulf of Mexico, Mobile has and always will be a mariner’s city. In fact, much of its history is built around the port, with a number of museums that dedicated to the city’s nautical past. From the USS Alabama anchored in Battleship Memorial Park to the Mobile Carnival Museum that preserves the city’s beautiful Mardi Gras traditions, there’s always a place to see some history in Mobile. In addition to that, the city is very much an art-centric city, with plenty of beautiful sights to be seen. For instance, the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception dates back to 1850 and features some of the most stunning architecture in the gulf, while the Mobile Museum of Art houses stunning works of fine and decorative art from all around the world. If you’re coming to Mobile for culture, for work, for history, or for good southern living, you’re certainly in for a treat.

Because Mobile is a port city, there is still quite a large shipbreaking industry there. For instance Bender Shipbuilding & Repair Co calls the city home and is one of the largest employers in Mobile. And how can we forget the number of colleges in the region? The University of South Alabama is one of the largest research universities in the South, and it’s a major employer in the city. From there, one can look to companies like AIM Mail Centers, Prior Energy, Firetrol Protection Systems, Sawyer Furniture, and Southern Medical Health Systems as a few other big-name employers in the city. No matter if you’re a young professional or a seasoned executive, there’s always room for opportunity and for growth in the city of Mobile and the surrounding region.
