What happens when you get bumped?

Standby apartments are the same ones Landing rents to nightly and monthly guests, but their bookings come first. If your apartment gets booked while you’re there, here’s exactly what happens:

  1. Day 0

Your apartment is booked for a standard reservation.

We let you know in the app. You’ll have at least three days before you need to move.

  2. The next few days

    You pick your next apartment.

Browse every open Standby apartment in the app, in the same city or a new one, and reserve the one you want.

  3. Move day

You move into your next place.

Check out of one and into the next. It’s already furnished, and we cover the cleaning.

  4. After

    Nothing else changes.

Still $1,595. Your billing cycle keeps running from your original move-in date.

You do need to be flexible
Great service if your job requires travel or relocation. Having fully furnished apartments at a locked-in rate has made moving around so much easier. You do need to be flexible with the Standby option, but it’s been worth it for me.

We became Landing Standby members, and our experience has been excellent. The apartment is clean, well-equipped, and exactly what we needed. We’re happy with our decision and feel confident recommending the service.

Standby, by the numbers.

Real numbers from 3,300+ Standby members and their moves. Pick a question.

3,300+ members

have stayed on Standby since it launched in December 2022.

Members to date by year: 2022, 46; 2023, 1,834; 2024, 2,626; 2025, 2,986; Today, 3,360.

Total members to date, by year. 882 of them stayed on Standby in the past 12 months.

Who Standby is for.

Standby is built for people who can move on short notice. If you want one specific apartment for a fixed period of time, a standard stay is the better fit.

Book Standby if

  • You can pack up over a weekend
  • Your dates are open-ended and you want one predictable monthly cost
  • Work moves you between cities
  • You’re between places and don’t want to sign anything
  • You want to try a few neighborhoods before you commit to one

Book a standard stay if

  • You need the same address for months
  • You’re bringing a pet
  • You need parking at a specific building
  • You travel with more than you can move in a day
  • You need to know now where you’ll be in six weeks

The questions we get most.

What happens when my apartment is booked for a standard reservation?
We let you know, and you’ll have at least three days to choose your next Standby apartment in the app. We cover the cleaning. Most members move every few weeks.
How much notice do I get?
At least three days, from the moment a standard reservation books your apartment.
What if nothing is open in my market?
Take an apartment in a nearby market, or stay elsewhere and we’ll credit you for the nights you can’t use.
Can I move because I want to?
Yes. Any open Standby apartment, any market, any reason. A move you choose carries a $150 cleaning fee. A move we ask for doesn’t.
What does $1,595 a month cover?
A furnished apartment with WiFi and utilities, 24/7 support, and cleaning on every move we ask for. One rate in every market. Your annual Landing membership is charged separately at signup. Parking isn’t included and isn’t available at every property.
Who can book Standby?
Anyone who passes the same verification as a standard Landing stay, with a credit score of 640 or above. Students, recent graduates and international applicants can apply with a cosigner. Standby apartments don’t take pets today, though service animals and ESAs are welcome.
How does billing work?
Your first month is charged seven days before move-in, or at checkout if you book inside seven days. After that it bills monthly, on the same date each month. Moving doesn’t restart the cycle or change the rate.
How do I get mail on Standby?
Use an Amazon Locker, a USPS box or a mail forwarding service rather than the apartment address. Because the address changes, Landing can’t forward mail delivered to an apartment you’ve left.
What if I cancel?
If you decide to cancel your reservation within 24 hours of booking, you will receive a full refund, including membership fee. After move-in, if you voluntarily cancel your Standby stay, we will provide Landing credits for any unused nights (3-day written notice required).
