If there’s one of the many things Houston is known for, it’s this city’s variety and quality of various cuisines from around the globe. In addition to renowned brick-and-mortar restaurants, Houston is also home to a plethora of food trucks you’ll find scattered across the city.

Many of these food trucks have regular standby locations, while others mix it up and frequent parks, shopping centers, and more, both inside and outside the Loop. That’s right—you don’t have to hit an open food truck park to experience the best street (or gourmet!) food Houston has to offer. And, while most food trucks in this Texas town don’t serve alcohol, you may find them stationed at areas where you’re allowed to consume it, making these spots a great option for hanging out with friends over some great food and a few beers.

Whether you’re looking for tacos, burgers, chicken, sandwiches, or something else, we’ve narrowed down a list of 15 of the best food trucks in Houston to help quell your cravings, including:

  1. Oh My Gogi!
  2. Tacos Teirra Caliente
  3. Abu Omar Halal
  4. Tasty Arepa
  5. Mingo’s Latin Kitchen
  6. The Brunch Bus
  7. Cousins Maine Lobster
  8. The Turkey Leg Hut
  9. The Burger Joint
  10. Muiishi Makirritos
  11. Houston Sauce Pit
  12. MadMax BBQ
  13. Rollin Phatties
  14. Blk Mkt Birria
  15. Stick Talk Cajun Hibachi

Let’s get started!

1. Oh My Gogi!

If you’ve visited Houston’s Rice Village neighborhood, chances are you’re familiar with the colorful sight of the Oh My Gogi! food truck, which serves Korean-style barbecue fusion by combining notable Korean flavors with Mexican and American staples. Some of its most popular dishes include its kimchi quesadillas and ramen burgers.

2. Tacos Tierra Caliente

Take a drive around the greater Houston area, and you’ll quickly see there is no shortage of taco trucks (and no shortage of good ones, either!). Tacos Tierra Caliente is one of those standouts in the Upper Kirby neighborhood on W Alabama Street. Whether you’re hopping between some of the neighborhood’s popular bars or need a quick bite for breakfast or lunch, you won’t regret stopping by this gem of a truck for barbacoa, pastor, or meat and egg breakfast tacos, among many other options. This truck also has two other locations in the Heights area on N Durham Drive and Shepherd Drive (but do note that the W. Alabama location is cash-only).

3. Abu Omar Halal

If you’re on the hunt for quality street food, you’ll definitely want to seek out some halal. Abu Omar Halal‘s claim to fame is Houston’s first (and only) halal food truck, which has since expanded to include a fleet of food trucks and restaurants located across Texas, as well as Florida and Oklahoma.

Best known for its signature chicken shwarma, Abu Omar Halal also serves a variety of other halal street food and sandwiches. Visit this food truck’s Twitter page for up-to-date information on where its often-changing food truck locations will be.

4. Tasty Arepa

If you’re a fan of Latin American food, you haven’t lived until you’ve tried an arepa, a Venezuelan and Colombian staple that can be somewhat hard to come by in Houston if you don’t know where to look. Tasty Arepa‘s corn cake sandwiches are usually split in half and filled with your choice of meat, such as beef, chicken, or pork, as well as other fillings, like crumbled salty cheese and sweet plantains. Other favorites on the menu include empanadas and cheese tequeños.

Visitors can find this truck permanently parked at 5002 Washington Ave. in the West End, where free parking is available to guests.

5. Mingo’s Latin Kitchen

In addition to now offering a brick-and-mortar restaurant in Pearland, Mingo’s Latin Kitchen is a traveling food truck that varies its locations around Houston. This food truck offers flavorful Latin fusion favorites like brisket empanadas, pulled pork fries, and chicken tacos, which means chances are slim that you’ll show up hungry and leave unhappy. You can visit Mingo’s Instagram page for updates on when the truck is open and where to find it.

6. The Brunch Bus

If there were ever a food truck name that could have sold you on the concept, The Brunch Bus is probably it. Not only is The Brunch Bus Houston’s first brunch food truck, but it is also a black-owned business that many patrons are eager to support. This food truck is regularly open and stationed at 1011 McGowen Street in Midtown’s The Garden, serving can’t-miss brunch food like fried chicken and cornbread waffles.

7. Cousins Maine Lobster

When you think of lobster rolls, Houston—and food trucks, for that matter—may not be the first thing that comes to mind. Cousins Maine Lobster is actually nationally known, with trucks scattered across the country. While a meal from Cousins Maine Lobster is definitely a splurge, if you happen to stumble upon one of its trucks in the greater Houston area, you’re going to hope to catch it again soon.

Choose between Maine-style lobster (chilled with mayo) or Connecticut-style lobster (warm with butter and lemon) on a New England roll with a side of mouthwatering fried tater tots, as well as other favorites such as mac and cheese, quesadillas, tacos, and grilled cheese.

You can visit the truck’s schedule on its website to find out where it is.

8. The Turkey Leg Hut

Drive past the Turkey Leg Hut‘s flagship location on Almeda Road just outside of Midtown and the Museum District, and it’s easy to see that it’s one of the area’s most popular establishments. This black-owned restaurant serves up tasty Creole flavors that attract crowds of people waiting in line to enter. However, hungry patrons who don’t want to brave the line can move on down to its food truck, which is typically parked right on the premises. Come for the truck’s comfort food, like signature turkey legs, and stay for the chicken jerk tacos and crawfish mac and cheese.

9. The Burger Joint

If you frequent the Montrose area and are a burger aficionado, chances are you’ve paid a visit to The Burger Joint. Now, fans can find the truck at 2703 Montrose Boulevard when in need of a quick bite. Here, you’ll find classic favorites like a bacon cheeseburger, bacon parmesan fries, a cheeseburger bowl, and more types of food.

10. Muiishi Makirritos

Another popular Asian and Mexican fusion option, Muiishi Makirritos offers everything from Japanese pastor tacos to bulgogi quesadillas. This truck’s location changes frequently, so visit its website and scroll to the bottom to see where you can find the truck on a given day.

11. Houston Sauce Pit

What makes Houston Sauce Pit stand out among the city’s food trucks is that while it not only offers signature Texas flavors, it’s also a 100% vegan food truck. Popular favorites include vegan brisket mac and cheese, smoked link-loaded mashed potatoes with Beyond Meat sausage links, and a variety of sides, like barbecue-smoked elote. This truck, which often sells out of its offerings, is located at 5000 Almeda Road in the Museum Park neighborhood.

12. MadMax BBQ

If you’re more of a carnivore and are after some true Texas barbecue, you can’t go wrong with MadMax BBQ. Serving up classic plates and sandwiches with chicken, sausage links, brisket, and ribs (as well as delicious stuffed baked potatoes), this Central Southwest Houston food truck is certainly worth a visit.

13. Rollin Phatties

Have you ever had a paratha? Regardless of your answer, you’ll want to experience a “phattie,” in which these traditional South Asian flatbreads are rolled with spicy meat fillings. Rollin Phatties also offers rice platters and quesadillas, as well as a Nutella dessert phattie (if you still have enough room after eating your food). Its location is stationed at 1731 Westheimer Road in Montrose.

14. Blk Mkt Birria

If you’re on the hunt for authentic birria de res tacos, look no further than Blk Mkt Birria. While this truck’s menu is on the small side, you may still be left feeling indecisive trying to choose between its tacos, quesabirria, birria torta and birria fries. We suggest going with a friend or two to sample a little bit of everything! Visit its Instagram page for updates on where the truck will be.

15. Stick Talk Cajun Hibachi

Finally, no Houston food roundup would be complete without the inclusion of cajun flavors. Stick Talk Cajun Hibachi combines just that with—you guessed it!—Japanese hibachi. Must-have menu items include crawfish tails, salmon or ribeye paired with made-to-order fried rice, as well as various surf and turf combos with choices of sauces such as spicy yum yum sauce or spicy garlic butter. This truck is located at 5819 Richmond Ave. in the Galleria area of Houston.
