The city of Orlando is famous for being one of the tourist capitals of the world. Millions of families travel to Orlando every year to enjoy Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, and SeaWorld, among other great attractions. But Florida residents know there is so much more in Orlando than just these theme parks.

If you’re thinking about moving to Orlando, there are a few things you should know about your new home:

How to find an apartment in Orlando

Moving anywhere means you need to find a place to live. There are plenty of neighborhoods in Orlando that are great for new residents, whether you want to live in downtown Orlando, a metro area like Winter Park, a hip new neighborhood like Lake Nona, or in Disney World’s backyard in Windermere. If you’re moving to the area, you can find great furnished apartments in Orlando where you and your family can grow and explore.

Prepare for the Orlando weather

If you’re moving to Orlando from up north, the weather in Florida probably sounds divine. Temperatures above 60 degrees year-round will feel like you’re constantly relaxing at a resort. The winters are great, but do be prepared for some hot and humid summers in your new home.

Don’t just fall into the tourist traps

Many people move to Orlando because they want to be closer to theme parks like Walt Disney World and Universal Studios, but the city has so much more to offer beyond these touristy areas. Be sure to check out one of Orlando’s many breweries, fun festivals, downtown nightclubs, and cultural attractions. You can also enjoy lesser-known activities, such as exploring Wekiwa Springs State Park, visiting Gatorland, playing golf, or going to an Orlando Magic game.

But enjoy the theme parks when you can!

While there’s a lot to do in Orlando besides the touristy attractions, it still can be very fun to have these theme parks in your backyard. Florida residents typically get a substantial discount on annual passes, so you can enjoy the fun whenever you want without breaking the bank. It’s also fun to take visiting friends and family to the parks when they’re in town. So, visit Epcot just to have dinner, or check out Universal Studios just for a ride or two. After all, when you live in Orlando, there’s tons of entertainment options right at your fingertips.

Get excited about no state taxes

If you’re moving to Florida from another state, you’ll be excited to hear that Floridians don’t have to pay state income tax. So, you can enjoy a little extra money in your pockets after you make your move to Orlando!

Know the traffic and transportation situation in Orlando

If you want to move to Orlando, you likely have questions about your new commute and how to get around town. Downtown Orlando does offer public transportation, but if you go beyond that area, you’ll want your own mode of transportation. Be aware that the I-4, the main highway, can often get crowded with tourists and visitors, so you should plan ahead if your commute includes this highway.
