If you’re planning on moving to Dallas, TX, you’re likely trying to figure out the best neighborhoods in Dallas, and which one would be the right fit for you. The Uptown Dallas lifestyle is one to be envied. Tree-lined streets with eclectic shopping, bars, and restaurants make this charming neighborhood one of the best in Dallas, TX.

If you’re thinking about moving to Uptown Dallas and are looking for apartments in the area, here’s our guide to the best restaurants, coffee shops, grocery stores, outdoor attractions, gyms, nightlife, and transportation in the neighborhood.

Best restaurants in Uptown Dallas

Don’t let the term “comfort food” fool you! Homewood is one of the most sophisticated restaurants in the Dallas area, with locally sourced everything and a wildly creative rotating menu including items like coal-roasted Spanish mackerel and grilled Brussels sprouts with chile butter.

There’s something for everyone at TNT Tacos and Tequila! This restaurant’s taco menu is seemingly endless, and everything tastes better when paired with a pitcher of cucumber jalapeño margaritas.

Chef Dean Fearing is known as one of the “Fathers of Southwestern Cuisine,” and his Fearings Restaurant on McKinney Avenue does not disappoint. Try the Texas beef carpaccio with tallow French fries and black truffle aioli.

Where to get groceries in Uptown Dallas

All your organic and ethically sourced produce needs can be met at Whole Foods, a Texas-native supermarket right in the heart of Uptown. This store is open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, except for Fridays, when it opens at 8 a.m.

An affordable chain of supermarkets in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, Tom Thumb has a location in Uptown that’s open every day from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Where to get coffee in Uptown Dallas

Coffee and tacos—what more could you want? Local Uptown spot State Street Coffee is a great dog-friendly place to hang out and work.

Popular coffee franchise Breadwinner’s Cafe & Bakery has locations in Plano and Inwood Village, but the Uptown location on McKinney Avenue has a charming courtyard patio for sipping the day away.

Start and end your day at The Alcove, where artisan coffee and small-batch wines are poured with equal enthusiasm. Patio seating is also available.

Outdoor attractions and fun things to do in Uptown Dallas

Built on an old railroad line, the tree-lined Katy Trail is perfect for hiking, jogging, biking, or even inline skating.

Turtle Creek Park is a historic natural refuge in the middle of the city, and with the local conservancy, there’s always something in bloom in this 128-year-old park. As a bonus, it’s dog-friendly

Dragon Park Gardens is a small park with a super-cool sculpture garden that’s perfect for an afternoon picnic on a warm Texas day.

Local gyms in Uptown Dallas

One of the nation’s most popular luxury gyms, Equinox Highland Park, is located very close to the Uptown area. Its range of fitness classes and a saltwater pool keep gym lovers coming back for more.

You can also strengthen, lengthen, and tone at the Uptown PureBarre location, or check out Fit Social Club, a locally owned gym with indoor cycling classes and top-of-the-line equipment.

Best nightlife and bars in Uptown Dallas

We love a good hotel bar, and Mansion Bar is one of the best bars Uptown. Come for craft drinks and live music in the Rosewood Mansion’s elegant bar setting.

Sometimes you just want the best cocktails in the city, and that’s exactly what Parliament is good for. With over 100 creatively mixed drinks on the menu, Parliament is sure to serve up your new favorites. Texas residents love this bar’s espresso martini!

If you’re looking for a little more casual bar in the area, the Standard Pour is a mainstay bar in this Texas neighborhood. This timeless haunt is known for its top-notch bourbon menu—and don’t miss their cocktail happy hour! At $5, these prices can’t be beat!

Getting around Uptown Dallas

Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) trains will easily get you to Uptown Dallas from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, but beyond that, you’ll probably rely on car transport in this area. Commuter bikes and scooters are not as prevalent here as they are in other cities. You can also check out the free M-Line Trolley, a vintage streetcar that treks up and down McKinney Avenue.
